About Me
My name is Jaye Lea Harris and I am a local artist here in FNQ.
Art and creativity have been a big part of my life from a very young age, the smell of oil paint being a fond reminder of my childhood.
I have been selling my art for over 18 years now and it has been such a colourful journey as I witnessed the shifts and layers of how I show up to the canvas, time and time again continually transforming.
My technique has been mostly self-taught, or rather a long self-discovery over that time, a never-ending inquiry into all the layers that is me. this has been the biggest tool for healing, learning and transformation and has given me a platform to share this with others.
In 2021 I embarked on my journey with the Milan art institute and once again found myself letting go of what I though was my style as I embraced yet another version of myself. I graduated this Mastery programme in 2023.
2023 took me to British Columbia to continue to learn and grow, following inspiration and the constant search for more knowledge. A 3-week exploration including 2 separate acrylic art courses with Autumm sky, an amazing visionary artist I admire very much.
In 2024 I opened my own studio gallery and now run my acrylic and oils course there and is very much of the intention of creating a create foundation for connecting likeminded people. I have big plans for this space and will be expanding very soon.
In 2024 I started to teach at the Cairns art gallery, and I am enjoying the different atmosphere it beings and the interesting people I get to meet, it’s very inspiring.
2025 I have chosen to continue my journey with Milan art institute becoming a member of their society of professional artists. This will create many amazing opportunities including the option to take part in ‘The outstanding artist’ an art competition I have been following for many years.
Creativity is a lifelong companion for me, always flowing and forever changing.
Over the last 3 years I have been running art retreats at the beautiful Thala beach resort.
These events bring me so much joy as I share art from what I believe to be a totally different place.. it’s not a technique based retreat as I believe heart, individuality and uniqueness is the key ingredient, I encourage a relaxing space with sound healing a sharing circle and most of all a place to be vulnerable and find another way to release and express those emotions that may be hard to do verbally.
Creativity is such an important part of life, but many don’t find time to tap into that as we are so yang oriented... these events I believe are medicine for the soul and anyone can do it.
All you have to do is be brave enough to show up.
You can also find me holding oil painting courses at Oxlade’s art supplies in cairns.
I teach an old master’s technique that has been one of my favourite techniques I have learnt to date and enjoy sharing this with others and seeing their art works come to life.
